Washed Up Comedian Jackie Mason Needs To STFU

"Comedian Jackie Mason has waded into the debate about comedians and political correctness, saying that free speech these days is only for minorities, not white people.

And especially white people who have certain beliefs about social issues.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively obtained selections from Mason’s interview with radio host Aaron Klein, set to air Sunday, in which Mason agrees with Jerry Seinfeld about the “creepy” PC culture. He lamented how “before, you couldn’t pick on homosexuals because it was bad taste… now it’s exactly the opposite, homosexuals can attack you and abuse you.”

It’s the same deal with black people, Mason said, because “a black person can call you anything he wants” but not the other way around."

Right-wing Terrorists Kill More Americans Than Islamic Extremists

When we have certain kinds of attacks in this country, there is terrorism world-wide, it’s a global conspiracy and they are coming to get us. But when we have other kinds of terrorism in this country . . . don’t talk about it.

Cenk Uygur (The Young Turks) breaks it down. Should our government pay more attention to domestic terrorism?

Read more here: The Growing Right-Wing Terror Threat

This month, the headlines were about a Muslim man in Boston who was accused of threatening police officers with a knife. Last month, two Muslims attacked an anti-Islamic conference in Garland, Tex. The month before, a Muslim man was charged with plotting to drive a truck bomb onto a military installation in Kansas. If you keep up with the news, you know that a small but steady stream of American Muslims, radicalized by overseas extremists, are engaging in violence here in the United States.

But headlines can mislead. The main terrorist threat in the United States is not from violent Muslim extremists, but from right-wing extremists. Just ask the police.

In a survey we conducted with the Police Executive Research Forum last year of 382 law enforcement agencies, 74 percent reported anti-government extremism as one of the top three terrorist threats in their jurisdiction; 39 percent listed extremism connected with Al Qaeda or like-minded terrorist organizations. And only 3 percent identified the threat from Muslim extremists as severe, compared with 7 percent for anti-government and other forms of extremism.

California Drought is God’s Punishment for Abortion Laws

"According to RH Reality Check, California Assemblywoman Shannon Grove characterized California’s historic drought as god’s punishment for the land’s abortion laws. This marks a departure from Genesis 5:32-10:1, in which god punished humanity by flooding the damn place.*

'Texas was in a long period of drought until Governor Perry signed the fetal pain bill,' she told the California ProLife Legislative Banquet last week. 'It rained that night. Now God has His hold on California.'

As RH Reality Check pointed out, this is doubly odd as Grove is on CA’s Agricultural Committee.

Neither was Grove above a good Nazi reference. Criticizing a recent California bill that would require crisis pregnancy centers to provide information about abortion, she said, 'The last time the government made people carry a government message, it was World War II and they made people wear Jewish stars.'” *

Bill O’Reilly Throws Temper Tantrum Over Negative Killing Jesus Reviews

An adaption of Bill O’Reilly’s “Killing Jesus” brought in record numbers of viewership on National Geographic; however, it was met with some rather harsh reviews. O’Reilly of course had to review the reviewers on his own show. John Iadarola and Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks discuss. Is Christian tradition under attack? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

"Wannabe Forest Gump and Fox News host Bill O’Reilly had a fairly bad reaction to some negative reviews of the National Geographic documentary ‘Killing Jesus’ based on his novel of the same name. Taking his ball and going home O’Reilly waited until he was on his show The O’Reilly Factor to fire back at his critics, claiming that the negative press was due to anti-Christian and anti-religious sentiment within the general movie critic population. Bill O’Reilly went on to say that Christian tradition was under assault, stopping short of saying there was a war against it as he had to save that line for his annual War on Christmas segments. Most of the negative reviews revolved around the documentary just being a terrible movie with Christianity being only mentioned as the source material.

Republicans Attack Pope Francis for Caring About Climate Change

"Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld accused Pope Francis of being “the most dangerous person on the planet” because he is seeking “strange new respect” from adversaries on climate change.

On Tuesday night’s episode of The Five, the panel discussed the pontiff’s leaked encyclical that warns of “unprecedented destruction of the ecosystem” unless drastic changes to lifestyle and energy consumption are made globally. Gutfeld accused the pope of having a “Marxist” background and Malthusian belief system.

“And that is what the Pope is doing. He doesn’t want to be your grandfather’s pope. He wants to be a modern pope. All he needs is dreadlocks and a dog with a bandanna and he could be on Occupy Wall Street,” Gutfeld ranted, in a video clip procured by Media Matters."

Charleston Shooting Not Racially Motivated Conservatives Say

The shooting last night in Charleston, South Carolina at Emanuel AME Church, a historic black church in South Carolina, was done by a guy named Dylan Storm Roof. He appears to be some sort of ring-wing racist that targeted black people in this country

Cenk Uygur (The Young Turks) discusses the reaction to the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. Tell us what you think in the comments below.

A heartbroken nation’s tension turned to mourning Thursday afternoon as news broke that the suspected gunman in an attack on a Charleston, South Carolina, church had been arrested, and the identities of his nine victims were released.

Dylann Roof, 21, allegedly entered the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church during a weekly Bible study meeting and opened fire around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Eight people were found shot to death at the scene, police said. Two others were transported to a hospital, where one later died.

Roof was captured Thursday morning in Shelby, North Carolina, according to Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen said Roof was arrested during a traffic stop.

Police Raid Marijuana Shop, Then Eat Merchandise [VIDEO]

Sky High Holistic is a marijuana dispensary in Orange County California. It was raided for allegedly not operating with the proper license. The owners are suing claiming the police only raided because they didn't pay the mayor of Santa Ana a bribe. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

"The mayor of Santa Ana is named in a lawsuit which alleges the city was clawing in money from bribes in return for guaranteeing a licence to distribute marijuana.

It comes nearly three weeks after the raid of pot shop Sky High Holistic was caught on surveillance video that appeared to show questionable behavior by 10 officers.

Santa Ana mayor Miguel Pulido was named in the suit along with city employee Yvette Aguilar and the city itself. It alleges the city solicited $25,000 payments and gifts from marijuana dispensaries which would guarantee businesses would be granted a license in a lottery system. It also claims police were used to shut down operations that did not pay up."

Idaho Wants The Bible Taught In Every Class

"Republicans in Idaho are pushing a bill to make the Bible a reference book in public school classes teaching science and law, Patheos reports.

Members of the state’s Republican party have published a set of proposed resolutions following a central committee meeting this past weekend among Idaho GOP higher-ups. The policy initiatives the state’s conservative leadership dreamed up include “A Resolution Supporting Bible Use in Idaho Public Schools.”

Republican party chairperson for Idaho County, Marge Arnzen, submitted legislative language to infuse the state’s curriculum with biblical teachings. The proposal, partially captured in screen shots below, begins with a nod to the Christian supreme being."

While religions are the oldest institutions in the world, they are the slowest to respond to modern issues such as drugs, homosexuality and changing family relationships. As we move into the second decade of the 21st century, it is important to re-examine the place religion holds in the world today.
science
Dimensions to be addressed:

Are we becoming a multi-faith society or one where many have no faith at all?
How are religious institutions helping instil tolerance and values in society?
How can we reconcile the trends in society’s evolution with religious beliefs?
How can we foster freedom of speech and at the same time religious freedom?

Rick Santorum Spanked Hard By Fox News

"Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) attempted to argue Sunday that it's more appropriate for him to be weighing in on climate change than it is for Pope Francis, who is not only a religious leader but also a chemist.

In the coming weeks, the pope is expected to release a groundbreaking encyclical -- a papal letter sent to all the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church -- making the case that addressing climate change and its effects on the poor is a moral and religious imperative.

Rick Santorum, a potential GOP presidential candidate and a practicing Catholic, criticized the pope last week surrounding the news."

Fox News Host to Santorum: If Only Scientists Can Talk Climate Change, Shouldn’t You Shut Up?

GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum told Pope Francis to “leave science to the scientists” last week, following comments from the pontiff (who has a chemistry degree) that humans were obligated to protect creation. This led Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace to wonder: if the Pope shouldn’t talk science, why should GOP candidates?

“If he’s not a scientist — and, in fact, he does have a degree in chemistry — neither are you,” Wallace said.

“We have to make public policy with regard to the environmental policy,” Santorum said. “Whether we like it or not, people in government have to make decisions with respect to our public policy that affect American workers.”

“I’m saying, what should the Pope use his moral authority for?” he asked. “There are more pressing problems confronting the earth than climate change.”

Santorum went on to say that the scientific consensus about climate change was an alarm for him. “Any time you hear a scientist say science is settled, that’s political science, not real science,” he said.

Skeptiko - Alex Tsakiris - Acharya S. Examines the Effects of Myth Making on Christianity

Interview with religion and mythology scholar Acharya S. (D.M. Murdock) examines the effects of early Christianity on other religions of the time.

Join Skeptiko host Alex Tsakiris for an interview with Acharya S. author of, Who Was Jesus? Fingerprints of The Christ. During the interview Acharya talks about the religion and myths:

Start: 5:10

Alex Tsakiris: One of the things that your work is really important in doing, and it's something we didn't talk enough about, is that it's a really thorough analysis of the power and practices of cultish behavior, of power formation, and power manipulation. I think unless we really come to grips with this we can't separate out what happened to these religions.
On one hand we have these traditions and these myths and those that made the myths, and on the other hand we have the same characters that we see on the landscape today that say, "Hey, wait a minute. Maybe I can make a buck off of this. Maybe I can control things. Maybe I can make my group superior and win out over the other groups. And maybe I can use these myths to do it."

Unless we thoroughly understand that stuff, and at the same time appreciate the possibility that there is some genuine non-biological-robot, spiritual experiences that may be happening; until all that's on the table, we can't really get our arms around it.

Acharya Sanning: What I'm just doing is writing a factual recitation of what has happened in these places. It's very empowering to know this stuff.

Also, when we were talking in the beginning about being in the middle between extremists on either side, this mythicism position that I am discussing which looks at supernatural beings in antiquity as mythical figures, not real people who landed on planet Earth and did a bunch of magic tricks. This is really a neutral position because you don't have to believe in it and you don't have to dismiss it. You don't have to be a theist or an Atheist. You can be either one to enjoy this information.

All I'm doing is collecting religious and mythological ideas from as far back as we can tell and putting them together and showing their influences on our thinking today. It doesn't require any kind of belief or any kind of joining or any kind of control...

Atheists A.C Grayling and David silverman debate Austin Pastors

Atheists A.C Grayling and David silverman debate Austin Pastors.

Several pastors from Austin and several notable Atheist leaders sat down to ask - and answer - some tough questions, and came away with a better understanding where each other comes from. This was not an attempt to pretend that we agree on everything - nor was it an attempt to "win over" the other in one night. That's what made this evening so special: both sides were seeking to clarify positions so that there can be an open line for conversation in the future ... so that co-workers and neighbors and family members who disagree don't have to avoid spiritual conversations. This, and more, was accomplished on this historic evening in Austin.

David Silverman is the current president of the American Atheists, a non-profit organization that supports the rights of atheists and the removal of expressions of religion in public when possibly interpretable as governmental endorsement, in accordance with the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

David Silverman began publicly challenging religion in high school and often states in interviews that he became an atheist at the age of six.Although he was never in the closet about his disbelief, he was forced to do his Bar mitzvah. He calls this the turning point in his life where he decided never to lie about his atheism again because he had gotten up on stage and told all the people he knew that he believed in God. Seventeen years later his father admitted to him that he also was an atheist. He received a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Brandeis University and a Marketing MBA from Penn State University. Silverman is an inventor with seventy four patents, and has authored several articles, including a cover story for Inventors Digest. evolution debate.

Silverman has worked with the American Atheists organization since 1996, and has held a variety of roles, including: New Jersey State Director, Communications Director, and Vice President. He was elected president of American Atheists on September 16, 2010, following Ed Buckner. Silverman also cohosts the Atheist Viewpoint television program, writes for the NoGodBlog, attends protests, debates and conferences for atheism and freethought, across the country.

Anthony Clifford "A. C." Grayling is a British philosopher. In 2011 he founded and became the first Master of New College of the Humanities, an independent undergraduate college in London.

Police Kill Americans At Stunning Rates, Here Are The Numbers

"U.S. police have shot and killed 385 people during the first five months of this year, a rate of more than two a day, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.

The death rate is more than twice that tallied by the federal government over the past decade, a count that officials concede is incomplete, the newspaper said.

The analysis is based on data the Post is compiling on every fatal shooting by police in 2015, as well as of every officer killed by gunfire in the line of duty.

"We are never going to reduce the number of police shootings if we don't begin to accurately track this information," said Jim Bueermann, president of the Police Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving law enforcement."

Glenn Beck's Cult Of Doomsday Zealots Having A Great Year

"Next week, Religious Right activist Jim Garlow will be hosting a four day conference at his California megachurch called the "Future Conference: What You Thought Was Coming ... Is Here Now." That sort of a dire warning perfectly matches up with what Glenn Beck has been saying for the last several months, so naturally Beck invited Garlow on to his radio program yesterday to promote the event.

Garlow's conference is coming at the perfect time, Beck said, because society is about to collapse and America needs passionate pastors who are willing to give up their lives if necessary in the fight against the coming persecution of Christians. Fortunately, the Black Robe Regiment that he and David Barton established a few years back has managed to cobble together at least 10,000 pastors who are willing to do just that.

"The number in the Black Robe Regiment is about 70,000 now," Beck said.

NC Bookwatch: Lost Christianities

Bart D. Ehrman was guest on North Carolina Bookwatch hosted by D.G. Martin. The program that was aired on WHYY 08/29/2004, to discuss his book that had been recently released at that time called, "Lost Christianities: The Battles for Scripture and the Faiths We Never Knew" [Episode: 239]. In Lost Christianities and the program, Bart D. Ehrman offers a fascinating look at these early forms of Christianity and shows how they came to be suppressed, reformed, or forgotten. All of these groups insisted that they upheld the teachings of Jesus and his apostles, and they all possessed writings that bore out their claims, books reputedly produced by Jesus's own followers.

D. G. Martin is the host of UNC-TV’s “North Carolina Bookwatch,” who served in the U.S. Army’s Special Forces, a retired lawyer, politician, and university administrator.

Program discussed on Bart Ehrman's Foundation Blog: http://ehrmanblog.org/?p=8837

Bart D. Ehrman is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He came to UNC in 1988, after four years of teaching at Rutgers University. At UNC he has served as both the Director of Graduate Studies and the Chair of the Department of Religious Studies. A graduate of Wheaton College (Illinois), Professor Ehrman received both his Masters of Divinity and Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary, where his 1985 doctoral dissertation was awarded magna cum laude.

Science and intellect are your gods!

From time to time atheists are told that they've turned science, intellect and similar things into their "god" or their "religion". This non-argument is a mix of insult (though it may insult their god and religion more), tu quoque fallacy and... just a touch of truth, but a truth that betrays a larger problem with their view.

This may be one of the biggest and most damning deepities we've heard.

Religious Website On What To Do When Your Wife Denies You Sex

A website that has a writer called “ biblical gender roles” has chimed in on whether a woman can resist her husband wanting sex. He said that she can not because her body is her property. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

"A website that gives sex advice to married Christians argues that women can never give their spouses “a flat no” when asked for sex because “her body does belong to her husband.”

The anonymous founder of the Biblical Gender Roles website, who says he is a white male in his 40s, came under fire earlier this month after he wrote an article titled, “Is a husband selfish for having sex with his wife when she is not the mood?”

“Feminists and even some women who would not consider themselves feminists believe it is selfish for a man to have sex with his wife, knowing she is not in the mood,” the writer explains. “In fact some claim if a man has sex with his wife when she is not the mood this is rape… Here we will try to answer this very important question, from a Biblical perspective.”

Old Angry Grandpa Explains Why Liberals Are Everywhere

"A recent Gallup poll found that the percentage of social liberals and social conservatives are exactly the same, for the first time in a long time. The Catholic Bill O’Reilly reacted tonight by saying he knows why liberals are making gains: “more Americans are simply ignorant of the consequences involving social behavior.”

He dubbed it “Watters World syndrome,” in reference to how O’Reilly producer Jesse Watters regularly talks to random people on the street who don’t necessarily have incredibly intellectual reactions to political questions.

O’Reilly said it’s “frightenine” how little liberals know, and he blames the internet and the entertainment industry for changing minds like that. He brought up how things like gay marriage and having a baby outside of marriage are viewed as more acceptable today than they were years ago, and that’s because of Hollywood, apparently."

Preacher Says Masturbation Leads To Hand Babies In Afterlife

Recently on Turkish television, a muslim preacher said that it was sinful to masturbate. He added that when you die, your hands will become pregnant in the after life. Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola (Think Tank), Ben Mankiewicz (What The Flick?), and Jimmy Dore hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

"A Turkish televangelist advised viewers recently that men who masturbate would have to deal with “pregnant” hands after they died.

According to Hurriyet Daily News, a 2000 TV viewer told Muslim preacher Mücahid Cihad Han on Sunday that he “kept masturbating, although he was married, and even during the Umrah [pilgrimage to Mecca].”

Han warned the man that Islam viewed masturbation as a “haram” or forbidden act.

“Moreover, one hadith states that those who have sexual intercourse with their hands will find their hands pregnant in the afterlife, complaining against them to God over its rights,” Han opined, according to the translation provided by Hurriyet Daily News."
